Top Tips:
- If you feel that there is wax or heavy contaminants (waxes, silicones etc) present on your paint please add a degreaser to your order. This will ensure that any of the steps will not react with chemicals on your car.
- If there is rust present surface please use a scotch pad to prepare the surface and remove any signs of rust before the primer.
- Heat will make the job easier and help to cure the primer, paint and lacquer faster. A hot air gun is an ideal tool for this job but lets call a spade a spade, not everyone will have a hot air gun in their toolbox!! A hairdryer can also be an effective tool for this job!
- For the ultimate finish we recommend using compound to smooth out the paint and then treat with a wax for added protection.
- Finally if your spraying a bare plastic surface such as the bumper or trim we recommend using a plastic primer before step 2! this will ensure that the three step process will adhere to the plastic surface efficiently.
Please Note:
Always spray a test piece using the spray out card provided to ensure that its a good colour match.
We will get your exact car colour match using your registration number. We then send your paint code to our supplier who mixes it up and puts it in an aerosol can. Please ensure you shake the Aerosol rigorously and also be aware that your car paint fades over time. This means that the colour we mix for you should be an exact match but if you feel that your paint is faded you can bring in your car where we can scan it with our fancy camera and give you the exact paint that is on your car even if its faded.
Always wear a mask when using aerosols.
N.B We have to order your exact match car paint aerosol can. Any orders before 2PM will be dispatched from our Waterford store the following day.
How To Use
1. Preparation:
- Ventilation: Ensure the area is well-ventilated. Outdoor spaces are ideal, but if you must work indoors, open windows and use fans to circulate air.
- Surface Preparation: Clean the surface to be painted. Remove dirt, grease, and any other contaminants to ensure the paint adheres properly.
2. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Respiratory Protection: Wear a suitable respirator mask that can filter paint fumes, not just a dust mask.
- Eye Protection: Use safety goggles to protect your eyes from spray mist.
- Skin Protection: Wear long sleeves, gloves, and long pants to minimize skin exposure. Use barrier creams on exposed skin if necessary.
- Hearing Protection: If working in a confined space, consider ear protection due to the noise from aerosol cans.
3. Safe Use:
- Shake Well: Shake the can for at least 2 minutes to ensure the paint is well mixed.
- Spray Technique: Hold the can 6 to 8 inches from the surface. Spray in a steady, back-and-forth motion, overlapping each stroke.
- Test Spray: Always test spray on a piece of cardboard or scrap material to check the spray pattern and consistency.
- Avoid Flames: Aerosol paints are flammable. Keep away from open flames, sparks, and heated surfaces.
4. Health Precautions:
- Avoid Inhalation: Even with ventilation, take breaks to get fresh air. Never spray paint inside a closed room without proper respiratory protection.
